Why I wish to study at MMU and a bit about myself.

I wish to study fine art at MMU as I believe that the nature of the course will allow me to experiment and develop in a broad way.The programme looks exciting and will give me the opportunity to be innovative whilst allowing me to gain more skills and support my creative ideas.  I am interested in all aspects of fine art such as painting and sculpture. I like to incorporate different media into my work; for example I am currently developing the concept of a kinetic sculpture in Art, and in Art Textiles I am experimenting with the idea of a sculptural fashion piece based on boats and sails. I enjoy manipulating paint and like to work in a textual way. I particularly like portraiture as I enjoy creating a character and story behind my work.

Figure sculpture

70cm in height
This sculpture was heavily influenced by the work of Antony Gormley. I wanted to create the a piece that had linear qualities and delicacy therefore I used dress making pins. This piece is created using wire, glue gun and dress making pins.

constructed textiles

58cm,38cm,20cm
This piece was inspired by the movement of water. Artists such as Michael Griffiths influenced the water bubbles shapes I created in my piece. I was also inspired by microscopic images of cow pat spores that look similar to frog spawn.

Tea bag dress

55cm, 64cm.
This dress was inspired by ruffs which I created using the tea bags. I was also influenced by the artist Lauren Wyrick Kennedy who also uses tea bags to create fashion pieces. This piece was made using willow, muslin, tea bags, wire and masking tape.

Life Drawing

Life drawing in charcoal 65cm, 46cm

Joe collage

This sketch was inspired by the artist Sam Caldwell who uses linear mark making and muted colours to create lonely characters. I have used a combination of collage and fine liner to create this piece.

linear men

27cm, 20cm, 3cm
This piece was created using layered prints, I have used lighting in this piece influenced by the artist Christian Bolkanski. The prints of the figures I created were influenced by Sam Caldwell's illustrative drawings.
